Darkseid is essentially the end boss of the DC Universe, an evil God who can go toe-to-toe with Superman himself. Even though Batman is a mere mortal, he's bested the villain on two separate occasions.
The first time, Darkseid blasted him with his Omega Sanction beams, so Batman shot Darkseid with a God-killing gun. Darkseid's beams sent Batman back in time, but Batman eventually returned to the present and thwarted Darkseid's plans.
